Where you send privately
Right in chatter
- Next to the recipient list, tick Send privately before you post.
- Followers of the document are added as editable recipients so you start from a full list and trim it.
- After you send, the toggle resets — the next message defaults to a normal public reply.
In the full Compose Email wizard
- Open Compose Email as usual and enable Send private.
- Works with mail templates too — send a quotation or report only to the people who should review it.
- Ideal when you need attachments, a full HTML body, or a template before the customer is involved.
How privacy is enforced
Dedicated Private Messages subtype
- Private sends use the Private Messages subtype — internal, not followed by default.
- Only the partners listed as recipients get the email/notification.
- Regular document followers who do not follow that subtype stay out of the loop.
Backend history, portal blind
- Messages remain visible in the backend chatter for your team's history.
- Because the subtype is internal, portal users do not see those messages on the customer side.
